Jeans That Fit: How To Find Them

by Sheila Dicks

We all own jeans and they truly are the main ingredient of any casual wardrobe. However, they are not all equal or equally flattering. We are not all born with the same shape, so, the style we wear will impact the way we look. Have you ever seen an outfit on one of your friends that looked spectacular but when someone else wore that same outfit it lost its pizzazz? That has to do with the body shapes of the two people and sometimes the color of the garment. Both women could be the same height and weight but have a totally different shape. The same holds true for jeans. Here are a few hints when trying to find jeans that will fit and look great on YOU.

Small flat behind:

If you have a small flat behind and your jeans tend to make you look smaller, choose a design with detailed pockets that are high and slightly smaller than those found on most styles. Pockets will drawn attention to the eye and will create the illusion of width and lift.

To add curves:

Wear low-rise jeans in a cotton-Lycra blend. The clingy fabric hugs the body and a contoured waistband will help create curves. Choose a pair that has been lightened at the thighs and knees to make legs look more shapely. Avoid standard boot cut jeans that have little shape.

To flatten a tummy:

Try a medium to high-rise (no higher than the belly button) in a dark color.

For the appearance of smaller thighs:

Stick to dark colors for sure and wear flared styles that will draw the eye downward and create balance. Don’t wear them too tight or too loose.

For the appearance if slim hips:

Do look for jeans without front pockets or jeans with slit pockets and stay away from front patch pockets. Buy dark colors with stitching that is the same color (or very close) as the fabric. Avoid light stitching and designs.

To prevent a gap at the waist:

If your hips are much larger than your waist then you will probably have this problem. What to do? Wear stretch denim jeans and stay away from crisp or heavy fabrics such as cotton.

To make your legs appear longer:

Wear a high-heeled shoe and flared jeans that will completely cover them.

Shopping Choices for Jeans

by Jane Simpson

Jeans are often considered as classics. Almost everyone, from toddlers to the elderly own at least a pair of jeans. Men used jeans as their classic uniform for years, while women often take the classic and put twists to update its look. Seven jeans used to be the staple in every woman's wardrobe. This is with good reason because the brand is one of the top jean-makers who offer great variety in terms of style and color. One could almost be certain to find the right pair in a Seven store.

Aside from the Seven jeans brand, another seemingly endless jean trend surfaced which is a far cry from the tight look of the 80's and 90's. The loose and baggy work pants style jeans which not only hide women's shape, but also cause unflattering silhouettes. These came with the new hiphop culture and was seen from rappers, to groupies, teenagers, and Hollywood stars. Fortunately, these trend in women's wear wore off soon enough and the only people left wearing them were male rappers.

Nowadays, women's jeans have more variety other than the super tight and high waisted jeans of the 80's. Gone are the days when women often wore too long blouses and shirts to cover up the bulges caused by the unrelenting denim fabric. Baggy jeans are also considered as fashion flubs. Jeans today are all about choices and more choices. This variety of choices makes jeans shopping quite a task. From rise, cut, wash, and texture, it has become a challenge to find the single perfect pair. But still, the old adage stands true. Buy jeans that fit your body well while accentuating your assets and skimming over your flaws. In short, use your body type as a guide in buying jeans.

Fashion insiders claim that the new trend in jeans today is the tight jeans. But this kind of tight jeans are not the 80's type. They are called tight but actually are just form-fitting. These are the most flattering jean style in market today because they follow the body's contours and are generally flattering to all shapes. Plus, these usually have Lycra in the fabric which in turn give them a bit of stretch and allow them to be more forgiving to bulges. Bootleg and straight cut tight jeans are usually preferred because they are the most flattering cuts. Dark colors also add up the slimming effect of these jeans. Stylists generally agree that pockets are important in either minimizing or enlarging backsides. Small pockets make behinds look larger, so these are perfect for women with bigger upper bodies for a balanced appearance. Big pockets serve to give the illusion of a smaller derriere. Fashion experts also insist that contrary to popular belief, low waist jeans are not only for people with perfect midsections. These jeans are generally flattering to all shapes of women.

Whether you're thinking of buying low waist jeans, seven jeans, women's jeans, tight jeans, or stretch jeans, buy jeans that make you feel comfortable and confident. After all it is the attitude and confidence that really makes or break a person's look. As a last reminder, a perfect pair of jeans can do wonders for your confidence.

Sexy Jeans For Oversized Women

by Gloria Diaz

More oversized women experience the difficulty of fitting their way into the glamorous world of fashion and beauty. The reason? Most superficial societies highly favor slimmer figures and slender curves when it comes to details of a perfect female body. Of course, one size doesn't fit all and although it is ideal, size zero is not synonymous to being sexy. Yes, regular exercise and rigid diet help women to look thinner and sexier. Yet, while training and exercise can be conducive to good health, not everybody has the discipline it takes. In that case, women can use proper clothing to conceal their bulges and other imperfections. The latest trend is to wear sexy womens jeans. The good news is, even oversized women can now have the confidence and comfort in jeans and apparels that complement and suit their form and shape.

Since there are many selections offered nowadays, the only concern is picking the right bottoms. There are some womens jeans today that are too skimpy and further show the problem areas of oversized women. If you are an avid fan of Oprah, you may have picked up already on the tips given by guests and clothing gurus, Trinny and Susannah: skimpy jeans don't look good on any woman. Though magazine spreads, TV commercials, and billboards nowadays feature women in the latest slim jeans, the experts claim that no woman can carry those pants. However, loose-fitting, tapered, or so-called baggy pants won't do good to the figure of an oversized woman, either. According to the duo, many American women make the mistake of being stuck in the 80s and wearing tapered pants. But, more often than not, badly fit pants make you look bigger than you intend to be.

The safer way toward fashion glam is to look for comfort in the cut. A good cut of womens jeans highlights just the right shapes and brings out the assets in your body and personality. Oversized women could choose flared or bootleg cuts so that their flabs, which are usually found in the mid-portion and thighs, could be balanced by the outward bottom part of the pants. Aside from the cut, oversized women can also be sexy by choosing the right style, design, or color for their pants. For curvaceous or voluptuous women who also have large butts to flaunt, pants without or less flambuoyant pockets could be worn for balance. As much as possible, light colors should also be avoided because these accentuate the heaviness of the oversized person. By just considering all these elements, oversized women can definitely look gorgeous in the hippest pair of jeans.

Hard To Find Custom Jeans

by Brian Johanssen

Finding custom jeans can be very difficult and expensive. Designers like Diesel and Seven offer hand made jeans that make each pair somewhat unique. To get the best custom look from these designers, the faded and worn jeans offer more hand made customization that can almost double the price. Getting just a couple of pairs can run you around $400. For most of us that could be rent or a nice car payment. There are ways that you can get around spending so much and get jeans so custom that nobody will have the same ones.

There are two ways to get the best custom jeans. You can customize jeans that you already have to update your look or you can shop for new jeans at a discounted price. The key finding new jeans is to look for jeans that you like, but they do not have the fading or tears that are trendy right now. Designer jeans like this are always the cheapest of their denim line. To find great sales you can ask sales people in finer clothing establishments about upcoming sales because they are used to trying to get a personal relationship with their customers. If they do not know about any upcoming sales, ask if they have a customer list that will call you when there is a sale. Most good sales people will do this.

When you have selected a pair of jeans that you want to customize, old or new, you will need to get one tool. The best tool for customizing is called a Dremel. It is a small high speed drill that comes with various attachments for all kinds of jobs. You can also use a drill if you already have one, but the shape of conventional drill is not optimal for this job. For a drill, you will need to buy a horizontal sanding bit.

With your Dremel or drill you are going to use the attachment that has a thimble shaped end wrapped with sandpaper. Set the speed to about 2000 rpms and start wearing down the edge of the leg opening. This is a good place to start because all faded jeans are worn here. Get a feel for how is wears through the fabric. Then you can move to the front and rear pockets. After that, use your imagination to wear them wherever you like. Good places to include some wear are the knees and thigh. Remember that you want them to look different. Come up with a new idea that no one has seen before. You can duplicate a pair you have seen if you like as well. The Dremel tool is a good investment for this job because you can use it on future pairs of jeans as well as hats, belts and canvas sneakers.

Customize Your Jeans

by Brian Johansson

When you buy a pair of jeans there is inevitably something that doesn't work out about them. For me it is often the ankle and the heel. Jeans tend to fit me fairly well throughout but in those two areas I still have a hard time finding a pair that fit perfectly. This often means that I will be forced to customize these jeans to work for me. I have three major pairs of shoes that I wear with jeans my converse chucks, black dress loafers and flip flops. Often times if I go with jean that already has a boot cut fit they work for the loafers but I end up dragging my heel under the other shoes. Sometimes this can give you a nice distressed look to the heel of your jean, but on a rainy day it just means frozen feet and disgusting muddy heels on your jeans.

My simple answer is to go with a boot fit jean that doesn't drag under my heel to much. Then cut the cuffs of the jeans vertically along the inside and outside seam to open the boot cut up further. This cut will look odd at first but after a few washings it will look nice and distressed and ad some personality to your jeans. The other answer is to cut the heel of your jeans out. Be careful when you do this and always cut on the side of caution. Once you cut the fabric away it cannot be put back. This cut will also look strange at first but after washing the jeans it will start to develop a nice distressed look. I always think it is better to cut your jeans specifically to what you needs are. Take the time to decide how to alter your jeans to make the work better for you next time you are looking to buy a pair.
